“P2″ The Last HD DVD Released

What is supposedly the world’s last “HD DVD” release is now available exclusively at DVAspecial. The title in question is P2, a 2007 horror film which performed poorly at the box office, the title is available for $26.99.

Interestingly, Brad Kugler the CEO of DVA claims to have inked a deal with an unknown studio for more HD DVD releases. It remains unclear if Mr. Kugler is referring to new titles or those previously released.

Pioneer's 32-inch KRL-32V KURO LCD HDTV gets unboxed

Peeks and glimpses are alright, but we all know those are just the crumbs leading up to the feast. CNET's UK branch was able to grab hold of what appears to be a retail Pioneer KRL-32V KURO LCD, and of course, they paused every few seconds during the presumably mayhem-filled unboxing process in order to snap a few photos and let us all in on the fun. Early impressions were overly positive, with the lucky unboxers noting that Freeview picture quality was "impressive," and that this here set proves that Pioneer definitely "has something to bring to the LCD party."

Diego named Argies' boss

DIEGO MARADONA tonight confirmed his shock appointment as Argentina boss - with a trip to Scotland as his first match.

The 1986 World Cup winner announced he will be head coach on November 19 when his countrymen visit Hampden Park, where he scored his first international goal.

Maradona will travel to England next week to meet two Argies challenging for the Premier League title - Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez and Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano.

And on tuesday the Argentinian FA will rubber-stamp their choice of a controversial but all-time great player for their top job.

Maradona, 48 today, said: "I really never expected this, although I always dreamed of having the chance.

"I will travel to England on Saturday to see Tevez and Mascherano.

"And in Scotland I will make my debut.

"We're going to play the game against Scotland with the best team we've got."

Lionel Messi, 21, will be one of the few stars to miss that match as Argentina have agreed with Barcelona that the whizkid will not play every friendly.

Sergio Batista, who guided the Argentina Under-20s to Olympic glory, is tipped to be Maradona's sidekick.

And he is likely to have a technical director in Carlos Bilardo, the boss of Argentina's 1986 and 1990 World Cup teams.

Maradona's coaching experience is limited to two months with Deportivo Mandiyu in 1994 and four months at Racing Club the following year.

But Argie football chiefs hope his iconic status with both players and fans will transform a national team who have won just one of their seven World Cup qualifiers.

Psystar slaps Apple around, releases Mac clones with Blu-ray / GeForce 9800GT

While suits from Psystar and Apple are currently attempting to work things out via alternative dispute resolution, the former company is doing something the latter company won't: offer OS X-capable machines with built-in Blu-ray and NVIDIA's GeForce 9800GT. Showing no mercy whatsoever in a recent release, Psystar calls Steve Jobs out for his controversial "bag of hurt" comment and proceeds to inform the general public that it's "now shipping" OS X-compatible PCs (better known as Open Computers) with Blu-ray optical drives and the GeForce 9800GT GPU. Based on pricing figures gathered from the company's website, a 6x Blu-ray writer is a $310 upgrade over a dual-layer DVD burner, while the 512MB GeForce 9800GT will set you back $200 more than the 8600GT. Whatcha got to say now, Steve? Huh? Huh?

Windows 7 details galore: interface tweaks, netbook builds, Media Center enhancements

Microsoft's Windows 7 announcement earlier today was followed up by an extensive demo of the new features during the PDC keynote, and since then even more info about the new OS has flooded out, so we thought we'd try to wrap up some of the more important bits here for you. Microsoft seems to have done an impressive job at this early pre-beta stage, folding in next-gen interface ideas like multitouch into the same OS that apparently runs fine on a 1GHz netbook with 1GB of RAM, but we'll see how development goes -- there's still a ways to go. Some notes:
  • Obviously, the big news is the new taskbar, which forgoes text for icons and has new "jump lists" of app controls and options you can access with a right-click. You can select playlists in Media Player, for example. Super cool: when you scrub over the icons, all the other app windows go transparent so you can "peek" at the windows you're pointing at.
  • Gadgets now appear on the desktop -- the sidebar has been killed. That makes more sense for all those laptop owners out there with limited screen space, and you can still see gadgets anytime by peeking at the desktop, rendering all other windows transparent.
  • Window resizing and management now happens semi-automatically: dragging a window to the top of the screen maximizes it, pulling it down restores; dragging a window to the edges auto-resizes it to 50% for quick tiling. Nifty.
  • The system tray now only displays what you explicitly say it should -- everything else is hidden, and the controls have been streamlined.
  • User Account Control settings are now much more fine-grained -- you can set them by app and by level of access.
  • They demoed multitouch features on an HP TouchSmart PC -- it was pretty cool, although the usual nagging "what is this good for / that'll get old fast" concerns weren't really addressed. The Start menu gets 25 percent bigger when using touch to make it easier to handle, and apps will all get scroll support automatically. There's also a giant on-screen predictive keyboard. Again -- could be amazing, but we won't know until it's out in the wild.
  • We've always known Microsoft intends Windows 7 to run on netbooks, and we got a small taste during the PDC keynote: Windows SVP Steve Sinofsky held up his "personal" laptop running Windows 7, an unnamed 1GHz netbook with 1GB of RAM that looked a lot like an Eee PC, and said that it still had about half its memory free after boot. (We're guessing it was running a VIA Nano, given the announcement this morning and since most Atoms run at 1.6GHz.)
  • At the other end of the scale, Windows 7 supports machines with up to 256 CPUs.
  • Multiple-monitor management is much-improved, as is setting up projectors -- it's a hotkey away. Remote Desktop now works with multiple monitors as well.
  • Media Center has been tweaked as well -- it looks a lot more like the Zune interface. There's also a new Mini Guide when watching video, and a new Music Wall album artwork screensaver that kicks in when you're playing music.
  • Devs got a pre-beta today; a "pretty good" feature complete beta is due early next year. No word at all on when it'll be released to market apart from that "three years from Vista" date we've known forever.

Audi A5 Sketch

Audi A5 Sportback

Audi is bringing the whole four-door coupe thing to the premium C-segment market with the Audi A5 Sportback. From the official preview sketches released above, the Audi A5 Sportback is essentially a four-door version of the Audi A5, which technically should be the Audi A4, but these days nearly everyone knows you can apparently create totally new cars just by reshaping the roofline, heh. The other A5 variant to be released in the near future is a cabriolet, which should be largely based on the 2-door coupe’s design but with the roof chopped off.

Casio's 8.1 megapixel W63CA

We had a chance to gaze through the wireframe of this 8.1 megapixel Casio W63CA Exilim cellphone back in August courtesy of the FCC's finest. Now check it in high-gloss, plastic flesh. The latest Japanese super-phone squeezes 480 x 800 pixel into a 3.1-inch OLED display. Let that sink in for a second... the very same 384,000 pixels on a display smaller than the 3.8-inch LCD heralded by the Touch HD. The camera features a wide-angle lens, 9-point auto focus, face detection, anti-shake, and a YouTube video mode that records VGA video at 30fps to microSD. All this in a Japanese-only flip measuring 110 x 50 x 17.4 ~ 22-mm when it launches in early November.

New Toyota MPV??

New Toyota MPV
Left: Artist’s rendering, Top-right: Mag-X thumbnails

We finally have some pretty solid but unofficial details on the upcoming compact 3-row MPV that Toyota and Daihatsu have been working on, scheduled to be launched next year. This is also the same vehicle that will be the base of the new Perodua MPV to be launched in Q3 of 2009, just in time for Hari Raya.

The Toyota version has a front end and headlamps that are very similiar to the current generation Toyota Vios. In classic Toyota style in knowing exactly how some Japanese love individuality and customization, the Japanese version will also get an alternate front end that is more sporty and aggressive. The Perodua version will naturally have its own front end, with a new grille, bumper and headlamps.

Toyota also has an existing compact 3-row MPV called the Toyota Sienta so it would be fair to compare this new MPV to the Sienta, and also the Passo/Boon/Myvi. And why not throw in the new Honda Freed into the mix. Let’s have a look:

Dimensions New MPV Sienta Wish Freed Myvi F/L
Length 4180mm 4100mm 4650mm 4215mm 3750mm
Width 1695mm 1695mm 1745mm 1695mm 1665mm
Height 1620mm 1670mm 1600mm 1715mm 1550mm
Wheelbase 2750mm 2700mm 2750mm 2740mm 2440mm

From the table above we can see that the new MPV is wider as well as longer in both length and wheelbase compared to the Sienta and the Myvi. A 2750mm wheelbase is impressive - that’s as long as the Subaru Exiga, which is quite a big vehicle!

It’s also quite obvious from even photos that the new Perodua MPV will be between the Sienta and the Myvi in terms of height as the Sienta is quite tall, but this new MPV loses some of that height for a sleeker profile that is generally more acceptable outside of Japan. After all, Indonesia is expected to be a production center for the car in ASEAN.

Something also very interesting is the fact that it is equal to the Wish in terms of wheelbase but significantly shorter and also narrower. Another key difference between this new MPV and the Toyota Sienta is the fact that the Sienta has sliding doors for the rear doors while this car uses conventional swing doors.

The primary engine for the Japanese market will be the 1.5 liter 3SZ-VE producing 109 PS at 6,000rpm and 141Nm of torque, but a 1.3 liter version could be available for the ASEAN market since the Avanza 1.3 was accepted quite well here.

The Japanese market interior will feature a dashboard with a centrally-mounted speedo and also a dash-mounted shifter (CVT for FWD, 4-speed auto for 4WD). ASEAN versions could see this shift lever moved to the area between the seats instead as we’ve seen this happen before with the Myvi (Passo) and the Nautica (Terios).

toyota-mpv-interiorFrom the Toyota product photos of the interior leaked by MagX, the second row looks like it can either fit 3 adults but I think 2 adults and 1 child would be more comfortable. At least it comes with 3 headrests, though this may be omitted in our market for cost cutting. The third row is a strict 2-seater.

The second and third row can be folded down for a flat loading area. The loading area is 1330mm wide at the rear-most area but when you fold down the rear seats, this width reduces to 1045mm because of the rear wheel arches protruding into the cabin. The loading area height is 858mm.

So, there you have it. There’s no telling at the moment which market will get the new Toyota compact MPV first, but it’s either between one of the ASEAN countries (Indonesia in particular), or Japan. One possible unveiling schedule could see a more “sophisticated” (dash-mounted shifter, option for DVD player, etc) Japan version unveiled first, then a low cost ASEAN version, and finally the Perodua version in Q3 2009.

Look after the jump for one more side profile shot of the new Toyota/Daihatsu/Perodua 3-row compact MPV.

Toshiba Qosmio F50

Toshiba’s Qosmio range has a reputation for style and performance that continues with its latest batch, including the Qosmio F50 (PQF55A-01L021). What the Qosmio F50 really gets attention for is its audience-specific feature-set, ultimately providing media junkies and gamers with a notebook that’s not only pretty, but has their needs in mind.

Let’s consider, for a second, where this notebook is likely to live once it’s out of the box. With an HDMI-CEC output it’s possible you will set it down next to the TV, to be used as a DVD player and media centre. The inclusion of HDMI on top of the S-Video port certainly enriches its usefulness in this department.

Having a total of 500GB worth of storage space over two 250GB hard drives certainly allows plenty of room for a large music collection and video library, among other things. Should that run out, fear not. Toshiba has added an eSATA port, allowing fast data transfer with eSATA-compatible external hard drives, a great addition for heavy media users.

On the other hand it includes its own hybrid FM tuner and digital/analogue TV tuner, with a standard antennae input and a portable TV aerial - and it has some pretty pumpin’ Harmon Kardon speakers with a subwoofer - so it’s also suitable as an all-in-one entertainment device for the bedroom. The 15.4in screen is nice and bright with reasonable viewing angles, but only offers a 1280x800 resolution, so it’s not a high definition experience. On the positive, however, Toshiba has included the capability to put the DVD in quiet mode, which slows the disc rotation to minimise noise, a very cool feature.

If that isn’t enough to get you giddy it’s also packed with an NVIDIA 9600M GT with 512MB of dedicated GDDR3 memory, so it may even find its way to the ‘computer desk’ for some serious gaming sessions. What we’re trying to hint at here is that the Qosmio F50 really covers its bases, and doesn’t fail in any department as a result. Using a DVD movie to run down the battery took a decent 108minutes, which isn’t amazing, but isn’t too bad for such a power hungry notebook. Its 3.7kg weight might restrict its mobility, but beyond that everything’s coming up Qosmio.

On the eve of Intel’s latest processor release, codenamed “Nehalem”, we’re pleased to announce that the Qosmio F50’s installed Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz CPU, built on Intel’s 45nm (nanometre) architecture, is still one of the best options around. It offers a 1066MHz FSB (front side bus) and has a 3MB L2 cache, so it’s not the top-dog, but it’s vying for the position. A solid 4GB of DDR2 RAM (upgradable to 8GB) provides plenty of breathing room, too. The CPU is part of Intel’s Centrino 2 platform and so it is installed alongside an Intel Wi-Fi 802.1 a/b/g/n adapter.

Qosmio models have always flounced a touch of aesthetic bling, so it’s no surprise that the Qosmio F50 walks the catwalk in what can best be described as a pin-stripe tuxedo. The glossy, black keys meet a pin-stripe patterned finish that has class written all over it. The curved design of the chassis is chic and the whole unit comes off quite stylish.

Among these features you’ll also get a 1.3megapixel webcam built into the screen, a media card reader and a set of backlit, easy-to-use media controls above the keyboard. The volume is controlled by a knob on the chassis that seems a little flimsy at first, but is ultimately quite effective. There is, of course, a DVD-RW drive in there as well.

Verdict: While a new generation of notebook technology teeters on the horizon, products like the Qosmio F50 prove there’s no point in waiting, not when the hardware is this good now. Media enthusiasts and mobile gamers will approve of its offerings.
Pros: Its eSATA, HDMI, 500GB storage capacity, gaming potential and top-notch speakers all get a big green tick.
Cons: The 3.7kgs weight may throw some looking for more mobile options

Hi-Def dilemma( LCD or Plasma )

Which one to go with?

Been thinkin a lot on which way to go...If going for LCD, nowadays can get FULL HD TV less than RM6K..No need to worry bout so called burn effect, brighter screen, low electric & better resolution. But watching Astro channel? Live telecast? If going for Plasma display, of coz better dark level, better Astro reception & live telecast( no response time )...but lower resolution means degrading when watching HD content...Also plasma seems to have problems with glass reflection & burn in!! Both technology claimed 60K hours lamp life now...( I believe LCD have a slight advantage in this area). Most 42"inch plasma have 1024 X 768 res.( Panasonic PV8 ,PV80, LGPG60,PG30 & Samsung 410 series )

PS: still buying HD DVD from Amazon & still think its a better technology than blu ray...but have to follow technology...and thats blu ray for now

2009 - The Year of National MPV

I've been looking into a lot of blog that seems to have a lot of story of national MPV's. Its good to know that still a lot of people are interested in national cars. Proton will launch their MPV somewhere in March/April time frame and Perodua somewhere in September. Looking at scoop photo's, seems that Proton will have a Livina size MPV's. People are talking about 1.6 seems to be underpowered but I believe Proton have thoroughly studied everything before introducing the engine capacity. With the successful of Persona, Neo & Saga, Proton are rolling into the right direction again. And Perodua, still a year to go with no scoop image( only bloggers predict pic ) , I firmly believe its going to be a strong contender in this market for Perodua. With a huge successful of its Myvi & Viva, Perodua will be going all out to make sure its stay a the top with the launch of their MPV's.

New Premium Trim for Lancer Evo X

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR Premium

The high price of a high powered version of what is still essentially a Japanese C-segment sedan may be a deterrent to those who are considering the Lancer Evolution X and find that its price comes too close to cars like the BMW 325i Sports especially in Malaysia. The BMW, while alot less powerful, still offers an interior that is so much more premium and ultimately to alot of people the nicer car to be in when you aren’t pushing it. It seems that the Evo’s interior isn’t much different from the Lancer’s - plasticky!

Mitsubishi attempts to solve this in Japan at least with the GSR Premium Edition, which slots in at the top of the line above the standard GSR and the stripped out RS. The Premium Edition adds 18 inch BBS alloy wheels, fog lamps, leather Recaro buckets, side and curtain airbags, and a Rockford Fostage 9-speaker premium audio system. It’s the seats that give the interior ambiance a whole different feel - the design and the leather gives it a much more premium feel compared to the standard GSR and the even emptier RS which comes with fabric non-bucket seats.

Look after the jump for a few more shots of the Evo X GSR Premium.

Proton MPV on the MRR2

Proton MPV 2009, Spyshots

Proton MPV Spyshot

The same group of lightly taped up Satria Neos and a heavily camouflaged Proton MPV were spotted on the MRR2 near Batu Caves heading towards Kuala Selangor by Andrew Wong, who quickly whipped out his camera phone to record a video of the MPV passing by his car. The frames captured from the video manages to reveal in low resolution detail how the front end of the MPV looks like, and we get to see bits of the headlamps sticking out of the camouflage too.

According to Andrew, the way the Proton MPV was going through the traffic was pretty swift, which hopefully indicates it has a decent power to weight ratio. However the video shows that the MPV didn’t have many people loaded - the second row seemed empty and there was no one in the front passenger seat either.

Alfa 149 images appear on the web!!!

Alfa Romeo 149

The little Alfa Romeo 147 was one of the most fun cars I’ve test driven. There was just something about the way Alfa Romeo made its inline-4 engine sound so good, the way the Selespeed automated manual transmission managed the throttle blipping on downshifts and how it slammed the clutch when you want the quickest upshifts possible. But it is getting a little long in the tooth now, being first introduced in the year 2000 and facelifted in late 2004 for a sleeker look.

The first images of the 147’s successor has made its way onto the internet. This Italian baby is based on the same chassis as the new Fiat Bravo and Lancia Delta. The Alfa Romeo 149 features a nice blend of curves and aggressiveness, with a front end that reminds you of the MiTo and a lovely rear end that features an integrated diffuser design. The images above show conventional door handles for the rear doors, so it means the 149 loses the 147’s “hidden” handles.

You can expect the 149 to most likely share the Bravo and Delta’s engine options, which means a range that includes a few Fiat diesels ranging from 105 PS to 190 PS (twin-turbo Multijet) and the 1.4 liter T-JET turbocharged small engine producing up to 150 PS and 230Nm of torque. It will be curious to see if there will still be a GTA version and if yes, what it will be powered by.

Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg: We'll Outsell PS3 Worldwide This Holiday

September marked the Xbox 360's best month of 2008, in terms of sales in the U.S — its performance in Japan hasn't been too bad either. Following a price cut that made the 360 the least expensive current generation console on the market, the company moved 347,200 units to American consumers. While it wasn't enough to supplant the Wii as the best selling console in the country, it was enough to beat the competition from Sony.

We spoke to Aaron Greenberg, group product manager for Xbox 360, just after NPD sales numbers hit to get his take. Unsurprisingly, he seemed rather pleased with the company's recent hardware successes.

"We expect to continue our price advantage over the PlayStation 3 for a long time," Greenberg told us, pointing to the $199 price tag of the company's entry level Arcade console, assuming that Sony would issue no pre-holiday price drops. "And we feel confident that we'll outsell the PS3 this holiday season in North America and in Europe. We'll do it on a global scale."

As for what those consumers are picking up, Greenberg said "We've seen lifts across all consoles, but the Arcade is doing exceptionally well."

Microsoft touted a 42% increase, month to month, on NPD hardware sales data. Greenberg made sure to point out that the August survey period consisted of a four week month, with the September period five weeks long. That, Greenberg said, illustrated "flat growth" of the PlayStation 3.

Fanning the flames of the console war of words, Greenberg harped on the Xbox 360's abnormally high attach rate, which at 8.1 games per console, outpaces the PS3 by 2:1 and the Wii by 3:1. "And that doesn't include [Xbox Live Arcade] games," he boasted.

Okay, we get it. You're swimming in cash and exclusive and high attach rates. Good job. Is Xbox Live going to work this holiday season? Because it didn't last year. How prepared are you, Microsoft man? How will Live hold up?

"Hopefully, very well," Greenberg said "We've grown our team and our infrastructure over the past year." With the New Xbox Experience, Gears of War 2 and even more Live ready titles putting a strain on the service this holiday, we'll see, Aaron. We'll see.

Mitsubishi's 65-inch LaserVue HDTV undergoes further testing

It's one thing to witness an HDTV under the watchful eye of the company that made it, but it's an entirely different experience to get out on your own, with your own hand-picked sources, your own food stash and the freedom to really speak your mind. From what we've seen under Mitsu's own conditions, the 65-inch LaserVue is truly a sight to behold, and even when the gurus over at TheTechLounge managed to see this thing in their own element, they were equally amazed. They wouldn't go so far as to call it the best HDTV ever, but even when compared side-by-side with Pioneer's heralded PRO-151FD KURO plasma, they found the laser-packed set to be superior in a few instances. The test subjects underwent a few grueling hours of Iron Man and Ice Age: Meltdown on Blu-ray, and at the end of the night, critics didn't hesitate to recommend the set for anyone with loads of cash.

PS3 Hits New Low....Xbox 360 Strikes 5 Weeks In A Row

Xbox 360 sales (6,690) continue to dominate Sony's PS3 in Japan as Microsoft's winning streak races to five straight weeks in a row against their bitter rivals. Moreover, PlayStation 3 sales are now falling perilously low (beating out last week's lowest ever recorded sales tally) with only 5,899 Japanese consumers purchasing the next-gen console. With over a month of trailing behind Microsoft's console in their own backyard, this no longer qualifies as an anomaly for Sony and surely some deep, thought provoking questions need to be asked over at Sony HQ. Just what the hell is going on in the Land Of The Rising Sun? Hit jump for rest of the weekly sales stats.

Xbox 360 Blu-ray: Microsoft's insists no again

Since the death of the HD DVD format and the fact that Blu-ray was the victorious winner, there have been a huge amount of rumors that the Xbox 360 is to get a Blu-ray player. The answer back then from Microsoft was that there was no truth in those rumors.

The rumors have surfaced yet again, and still the answer from Microsoft remains the same. Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg decided to hit back at all the rumors and still insists no, Blu-ray will not be coming to the Xbox 360.

Greenberg did have a dig at Sony, saying that they do not expect people to pay for something that they do not need. Microsoft are still standing firm and say that their future is with providing online digital distribution.

LG Prada II

he new Prada phone by LG is the highly anticipated successor to the original Prada phone, which first brought Prada together with LG, one of the most advanced technology companies in the world.

The Prada phone made history as the first full touch-screen phone to reach the market. With all the characteristics of the most digitally enhanced phones it was also a powerful aesthetic pioneer and quickly established its hold on the industry with over 1 million design-conscious users demanding handsets.

Its elegant good looks combined with a digitally sophisticated interface made it instantly appealing. The culmination of Prada research and development in the complete interior as well as exterior design and functionality of the phone and accessories was key to this success.

The unique QWERTY keyboard available only with the new telephone is designed for maximum ease of use. The metallic feel makes it a pleasure to touch and type, complimenting the slick design aesthetic. The silver keyboard along with the additional on-screen, call and hang-up buttons gives fresh tactility to the original minimal concept.

Other enhanced features include 3G compatibility with video calling, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, full HTML browser, the 5 mega pixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens, and Wi-Fi accessibility.

Hari Raya Open House

Apple

Perodua Myvi SE

The new updated Perodua Myvi SE has been launched in the Malaysian market today, so let’s have a look through what’s new with this Special Edition model compared to the recently unveiled Perodua Myvi facelift.

The Perodua Myvi SE is essentially an easy way to accessorize your Perodua Myvi with all the costs of making it look different from the run of the mill Myvi factored into the hire purchase loan for you and installed straight from the factory.

What you get is a new bodykit featuring a different front bumper and a different rear bumper, a spoiler, and different 14″ alloy wheels. The new rear bumper features a diffuser-like design which looks so much better than the pre-facelift Myvi SE’s rear bumper. The taillamps are also now of a clear design and keep the LED lighting units inside while the headlamps are of a blacked out design.

On the interior you get leather upholstery on the seats as well as the steering wheel. The head unit is no longer integrated but of a 2-DIN type and comes standard with CD, MP3 and WMA capability. It can also load your music files from a USB drive, and it has Bluetooth capabilities. The instrument panel follows the facelifted Myvi’s three-gauge design but instead of being blue and white, it lights up in amber.

Interestingly the cute yellow Myvi that we saw in the spyshots is missing from the line-up of both the standard facelifted Myvi and this new Myvi SE. You do get one new colour - Tangerine Orange. Other colour options for the SE include Ivory White, Ebony Black, Glittering Siver or Pearl White. Pearl White is designated a “special metallic” colour that costs more than your normal metallic.

Basically that’s it - the enhancements are all aesthetics. The engine is still the same 1.3 liter unit producing 86 horsepower at 6,000rpm and 116Nm of torque at 3,200rpm, and the brakes are still discs at the front and drums at the rear.

RIM is known for its e-mail-oriented phones with large keypads. With the new model announced Wednesday, the Storm, RIM is for the first time giving up the physical keypad in favor of a large screen, just like the one on Apple's iPhone.

Tevez is given deal pledge

CARLOS TEVEZ has been reassured his move to Manchester United will be made permanent before the end of the year.

SunSport revealed how the Argy striker has been left scratching his head by the lack of movement over his transfer.

Red Devils boss Alex Ferguson hinted last month it could be the end of the season before anything is finalised.

That set alarm bells ringing in the Tevez camp as chief exec David Gill had vowed something would be sorted by the end of the year.

The former West Ham man saw United shell out £30.75million on Dimitar Berbatov last month and hand the Bulgarian the No9 shirt.

But United are still very confident of holding on to Tevez and have assured his agent Kia Joorabchian a deal will still happen.

A spokesman said: “David Gill said in July we hoped to conclude a deal with Carlos before the New Year.

“That’s still our aim. The clocks haven’t even gone back yet.

Both the club and Carlos are relaxed about the situation.”

Five reasons not to buy a Blu-ray player yet

1. Nearly all current Blu-ray players are obsolete:
The Blu-ray standard is still evolving. Most models currently available use the original Profile 1.0 standard, while some newer models use Profile 1.1 (which adds the ability to show picture-in-picture commentaries). Later this year, the first Profile 2.0 players--which add the ability to deliver online special features (BD Live)--will become available. Ironically, both of these are designed to bring the Blu-ray standard in line with HD-DVD players, which have long been able to deliver these features.

2. Blu-ray is best on a big-screen TV: Can you see the difference between standard DVD and Blu-ray? Yes--but it may not be as noticeable as you would think. Like all high-definition material, Blu-ray discs look their most impressive at bigger screen sizes, where DVD can sometimes start to look a bit soft. Put another way: If your TV is 37 inches or smaller, you probably won't be getting a huge advantage from Blu-ray.

Caveat: Eagle-eyed videophiles--or those who sit especially close to their 1080p TVs--may well see a difference. Rule of thumb: If HDTV programming looks noticeably better than DVD playback on your TV, then Blu-ray will be a worthwhile investment.

There are still very few movies available on Blu-ray: As of February 5, 2008, there are less than 450 current Blu-ray titles available in the US (not counting discontinued and adult titles). That stacks up well to HD-DVD (around 400). But it's a drop in the bucket compared to standard DVD, which has at least 90,000 titles available (including TV shows).

Caveat: Sure, it's small now, but the number of Blu-ray titles is growing slowly but surely. In fact, Blu-ray and HD-DVD adoption (combined) has actually outpaced that of the original DVD format, which took three or four years before it really went mainstream.

4. Blu-ray still has growing pains: How many times have you popped a brand new DVD into your player, only to be greeted with a message that you need to update the firmware to view the movie? Probably never, but Blu-ray early adopters have faced this message more than they would like to admit. (To be fair, HD-DVD has had its share of disc compatibility issues as well.) To make matters worse, many early Blu-ray players can't update via Ethernet, so you'll need to burn a CD to update the player. If you're reading Crave, burning a disc probably isn't a problem--but there are many less-tech-savvy people that love DVDs, but have no idea what an ISO file is.

5. Prices have nowhere to go but down: Even without competition from HD-DVD, Blu-ray prices seem to be on a one-way ticket downward, so don't be surprised to see in-house specials at S$599 or lower. In fact, the Samsung BD-P1400 is now going for only S$99 with each 40-inch full-HD LCD TV purchased at Harvey Norman in Singapore.

Same again for Sauber

Poland's Kubica is currently third in the world championship standings behind Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa heading into the Japan Grand Prix, while Germany's Heidfeld is fifth.

Austria's Christian Klien will remain the team's test and reserve driver.

"We see Nick and Robert as a strong driver pairing and Christian as an experienced test driver," BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen said in a statement.

"We are in no doubt that we will again achieve our ambitious aims with them in the team's fourth year."

The announcement ends speculation over Heidfeld's future and also slams the door on Renault's Fernando Alonso, winner of the Singapore Grand Prix, who had been linked with a move to BMW
