Tron Legacy n Gulliver Travels

Had a chance to watch those two in 3d's. Tron Legacy,been waiting for this for a while but got a mixed feelin after the show. To prepared on watching this, I've downloaded the 1982 version. I am so impressed with the current technology and how they trying to described future at that time. The storyline was simple but original.its more focus on the character and how the game was built towards it. But Legacy storyline is much more predictable and more focus on the CGI effect. I felt rather flat.

Gulliver's Travel. I do expect more from Jack Black. Storyline wise, its not that important in most Jack's movie but its not that funny. His usual rock n roll is expected and yet not that funny anymore. I personally think that his performance in Nacho Libere is far more better than this. The 3D effect also failed to impress. At least, Tron Legacy shows better CGI effect.

Got the chance to watch it and aparts from 3D n stuff, i just prefer the 1st and 2nd installment. The storyline is weak, the big hooded guy just came from nowhere...not that strong enough though. Milla and Ali is damned HOT....Wentworth Miller character is exactly like his Scolfield character in Prison Break. Out of five....i give 2.5

It's time for the hammer to fall. Pretty cheesy opening, huh? Anyway, some good news is coming from Production Weekly's twitter account: "Filming on Marvel's "Thor" is scheduled to begin in LA mid-January, then move to Santa Fe, New Mexico from March till late-April." Who's excited? It was sort of disappointing to hear that Alexander Skarsgard would not be the mighty God of thunder, but at least his Dad, Stellan got a part. Not sure what part it was though. I really think this is going to be insanely epic. For starters, you've got Kenneth Branagh directing. That automatically makes it worth seeing. Then there's some good names in the cast: Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. As for the casting of Chris Hemsworth as THOR, I think it's alright.

Blomkamp's next

After DISTRICT 9 went on to gross over $100 million, creating a new sci-fi franchise from an original concept, writer/director Neill Blomkamp had his choice of projects to work on next. Would it be a DISTRICT 10? A superhero movie? An adaptation of a once famous TV series? None of the above. Blomkamp has signed a deal to direct, get this, another original concept. Who is this guy and where is he getting all these original ideas from?!

Details on the project are being kept under wraps but Media Rights Capital has committed to finance the untitled sci-fi pic. Blomkamp will be given complete creative control over the film, which is expected to cost more than D-9's $30 million but otherwise modest by sci-fi standards. MRC will shop the project to distributors as production begins. At this point, Peter Jackson is not expected to be involved.

Said Blomkamp of the deal, "MRC is letting me make the film I want to make and that is by far the most important thing here. The film will hopefully be commercial, but it is very much a singular film, that comes directly from me." He'll immediately begin writing the project and doing early FX tests. I should note that Blomkamp WILL do a sequel to DISTRICT 9 for Sony but this untitled project will be his next effort and D-10 will have to wait.

Michael Bay Confirms Transformers 3 for 2011

The director of an immensely popular action franchise has confirmed we won't have to wait as long for the third film in the series. Director Michael Bay annnounced on his official website that Transformers 3 has now been confirmed for a summer 2011 release. Here's the director's statement on his website, which included a note to Megan Fox as well.

Well its official: We have a great Transformers 3 story. The release date is now July 1st 2011. Not 2012.

Today is Day One. This morning started with an ILM meeting for five hours in San Francisco. Currently I'm flying with writer Ehren Kruger to Rhode Island to talk to Hasbro about new characters.

It was reported earlier this year that Bay had planned to take a break in between Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Transformers 3, originally stating that he would prep for a 2012 release of Transformers 3.

Kate Beckinsale might be in Gears of War movie

During Epic Games’ Gears of War Panel at Comic-Con 2009 in San Diego California, the director, Len Wiseman, and writer, Chris Morgan, of the upcoming film adaptation shared some details with fans about potential casting selections for the movie.

According to IGN, amongst the prospects to play Maria, the wife of one of the game’s protagonists, Dominic Santiago, Len Wiseman said he was interested in British actress Kate Beckinsale.

“If I can convince [Kate Beckinsale]—and I think I have a shot—I’d love to see that,” said Wiseman. He is also currently married to Beckinsale. Minor detail, that.

Though best known for her more dramatic roles in films like The Aviator and Pearl Harbor, Beckinsale is no stranger to making action flicks either. She starred in 2003 action movie Underworld as a sultry, leather clad vampire, and co-starred opposite Hugh Jackman in 2004’s Van Helsing.

However, contrary to Internet rumors that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would be starring in a Gears of War movie, Wiseman was quick to announce they were currently not pursuing the former WWE wrestler.

“A Doom connection would not be smart for us,” said Wiseman, referring to the 2005 film adaptation of the classic PC shooter franchise which was a box office flop. The Doom movie starred recognizable actors like Johnson and Karl Urban, but was scorned by critics and currently holds a Rotten Tomatoes rating of only 20%.

Fox Announces Avatar Day

Natalie Portman Cast as Jane Foster in Thor!

Marvel Studios announced today that Academy Award® nominated actress Natalie Portman has been cast to star as Jane Foster in the studio's highly anticipated movie Thor.

In the early Thor comics, Jane Foster was a nurse who became Thor's first love. The character will be updated for the feature adaptation.

Portman will star opposite Chris Hemsworth who will play Thor and Tom Hiddleston who will play the villain Loki. Kenneth Branagh will direct the film.

Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige will produce Thor. Principal photography for the film is set for early 2010. The film will be released in the US on May 20, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

‘Transformers’ on all-time top 20 list

“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” the new Paramount Pictures movie based on Hasbro Inc.’s toy brand, is already the 16th-highest grossing film ever in the United States after just 16 days in release, according to Box Office Mojo.

The “Transformers” sequel sold a total of $339.22 million in tickets domestically between its opening on June 24 and last Sunday, the research firm reported.

That eye-popping haul put the movie at 16th place on Box Office Mojo’s list of the movies with the biggest domestic grosses, ahead of “Spider-Man 3” (2007) and behind “Finding Nemo” (2003). The list is not adjusted for inflation.

The movie also is now ranked ahead of the original “Transformers” film, which came out in 2007, on the list. The first movie ranks 21st with $319.25 million in domestic ticket sales, according to Box Office Mojo.

After last weekend, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” has already nearly matched the total worldwide gross of the first film in the “Transformers” series. The second “Transformers” has made $703.44 million worldwide in two and a half weeks, only slightly less than the 2007 film’s final tally of $708.27 million globally.

Richard Corliss, a film critic for Time magazine, also pointed out that “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” has now made more money domestically than any of the “Harry Potter” or “Pirates of the Caribbean” films.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Passes $300 Million at the Box Office

Michael Bay's latest film becomes the first film of the year to crack mega-blockbuster status. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has become the first film to crack $300 million at the domestic box office this year.

Monday's box office figures have the sequel's North American tally at $299.8 million, while the international grosses passed $300 million as well, for a worldwide take of over $600 million. Still, the Monday box office crown ended up going to the animated hit Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which barely squeaked by with $6.5 million to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen $6.4 million.

Transformers' tops $200 million

Paramount's action sequel "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" capped its dramatic debut with a vengeance, ringing up $112 million in estimated weekend boxoffice for a competition-crunching domestic cume of $201.2 million since storming theaters Wednesday.

Matched against the first five days of all previous film releases, the "Transformers" tally falls below only that of last summer's "The Dark Knight," which debuted with $203.8 million during a Friday-to-Tuesday span. With another $181.6 million coming from overseas, the global gross for the second "Transformers" now stands at $363.2 million.

Produced by Paramount, DreamWorks and Hasbro, "Transformers" hauled in at least $25 million more through Sunday than most had anticipated.Now playing in almost every other country except India, the movie added $185.8 million overseas, for a worldwide total of $387 million. That's well over half the $708 million global total for the first "Transformers."

That first movie began with a $70.5 million weekend. Based on how well the sequel has done, "Revenge of the Fallen" could join the handful of movies that have topped the $400 million mark domestically.

"I'd say given the momentum it has, it's got a real shot," said Rob Moore, vice chairman at Paramount.

For the first five days, the "Transformers" sequel was second only to last summer's "The Dark Knight" with $203.8 million.

This was the biggest opening weekend of this year, surpassing the $85.1 million debut of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" in early May.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Shatters Wednesday Box Office Record with $60.6 Million

A blockbuster sequel only needed one day to enter the record books this week. According to Variety, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen broke the single-day Wednesday box office record with $60.6 million.

The Wednesday haul destroyed the previous record of $44.2 million, which was set in 2007 with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The film is playing in more than 4,200 theaters and $16 million of the film's first-day take were from midnight screenings.

Box office analysts predict that the sequel's five-day haul to be somewhere between $150 and $170 million.

fans were fairly thrilled when PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN director Gore Verbinski decided to make the acclaimed BIOSHOCK into a feature film

-- after all, someone coming from such grand-scale special effects extravaganzas seemed perfect for adapting the brilliant game.

Verbinski's plans now appear to be in danger, and for the expected reason given today's climate: money. Universal decided $160 million was a bigger withdrawal than they wanted to take out of the bank, so the golden property is now in dry dock (despite Verbinski's track record of profitability from expensive epics).

The studio and filmmaker both vow the project won't become another "HALO situation" (that game

adaptation was dumped due to ballooning price tag) and are considering options that might lower costs, like moving the production to somewhere with substantial tax incentives. But some of the staff has already been let go, so that could be later rather than sooner.

BIOSHOCK is set in the 1960s and follows a man whose plane crashes near the underwater art-deco city called Rapture. Built by a wealthy businessman as a sanctuary for brilliant scientists and artists to freely practice their crafts, Rapture fell into chaos as the inhabitants slowly became obsessed with genetic modification.

The videogame's sequel is due later this year.

Fast & Furious broke a box office record for April by posting a 72.5 million (US) take for the opening weekend.

The stars certainly wasted no time in committing to making more road raging action for the big screen. Since the original film, The Fast and the Furious released back in 2001, was a break-out hit for both stars, Diesel and Walker have seen their careers flounder with a slew of poorly received movie fare. After returning to the franchise this time around, they seem to realize where their bread gets buttered.

Fast & Furious, released last week to tepid reviews, has defied the critics and founds its audience in the car tuning subcultures in the United States and of those around the world. Though, Walker may have inadvertently acknowledged that this wasn't the best of sequels and hopes to make the next one the film that tops the series.

"I don't think the best one's been done yet," he is quoted in the MSNBC story.
