Canon 50D vs Nikon D90
Canon 50D and Nikon D90, relatively new announced camera this Fall 2008 is actually fall in different class. Canon 50D is designed more for semi-professional and D90 is more for enthusiasts. But there are many people that ask which one is better for them? This article is trying to explain about their similarities and especially their differences.Features
On Canon 50D advantages
- Canon 50D has bigger image resolution 15 megapixel compare to 12 megapixel of Nikon D90.
- Canon 50D has 14-bit conversion for smooth color tones and gradations.
- Canon 50D has better continuous shooting speed (6.3 fps vs 4.5 fps).
- Canon 50D features high end feature such as AF-adjustment and New Lens Peripheral Illumination Correction which help to optimize image quality for individual lenses.
- New Creative auto is very handy for novice and enthusiasts.
- Tough magnesium alloy body resistant to dust, moisture and bad weather.
On Nikon D90 advantages
- Nikon D90 has ability to record video clip with sound to 720p HD (1280 x 720 pixels).
- Nikon D90 features high iso up to 6400 with a very usable 3200, while 50D has iso up to 12800 but 50D's iso 3200 is not as clean as D90.
- Nikon kit lens 18-105mm that come with D90 is better than Canon kit lens (either 18-200 or 28-135mm).
Price
By the time I write the article, Canon 50D is about $250 more expensive than Nikon D90.
Built quality
Canon 50D body is built using magnesium alloy, weather resistant but not water splash. Nikon D90 body is significantly less durable which is rugged/reinforced plastic. Both cameras are very ergonomic and fits most hand well. Nikon d90 is lighter and smaller (Try it at store).
In conclusion
Both camera are exceptional cameras in 2008. Canon 50D is a high end camera but it is very friendly to new users (new creative auto, 3 inch lcd screen with live view). Canon 50D also answers many complaints from professional about the lens AF focus system problems by giving the AF-adjustment feature which could be very helpful if you have a broad range of third party lenses. The body of 50D is also tough, able to withstand harsh weather outdoor and couple accidental knocks. It also has higher image resolution that might be helpful to print oversize poster or cropping later in post processing without losing a lot of details.
But Canon 50D is not perfect, Nikon D90 has some features that you might excited to use such as video recording capability that you can use with many Nikon lenses. The new kit lens is very versatile and sharp. If you shoot a lot in low light situation without flash, Nikon has a cleaner image in high iso (1600-3200). D90 is also cheaper.
In making decision, it comes back to what you really need, do you really need pro features and body that Canon 50D offers? or you are more excited to try out video feature D90 has to offer and save some money in the process.
I will say most of enthusiasts will be satisfied with Nikon D90 and kit lens performance but for professional photographer especially photo journalists, Canon 50D will be a better choice because its durability, higher speed in continuous shooting and some other features that I mentioned above. But to get full advantage of 50D, I recommend users to invest on a higher quality Canon lens instead of average kit lens that Canon offers.
Euro NCAP Test Results for May 2009
It’s also very interesting to compare the Jazz and the i20 which are in the same segment’s results. I believe it represents how far Korean automotive engineering have come now, because the i20 outscores the Jazz in pretty much every area, sometimes by more than 10%.

Microsoft confirms Zune HD coming this fall
Microsoft on Tuesday confirmed its plans to take on the iPod Touch with a new, touch-screen Zune that will be able to surf the Web, play high-definition movies, and tune in to digital radio.
The Zune HD, which will be available in the U.S. only starting this fall, features an HD Radio tuner as well as an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) touch screen, Microsoft said. It is based on Windows CE and will use a version of Internet Explorer customized for its touch screen, Microsoft said.
The software maker did not announce pricing or capacity, though it said the device will use flash memory and attempt to take on Apple's high-end iPod models.
"This device is created to go head to head with the iPod Touch," Chris Stephenson, general manager of global marketing for Microsoft Zune, said in a telephone interview on Tuesday. Zune buyers will also be able to play HD content on their TVs via a dock, Microsoft said.
The software maker also said that at next week's E3 trade show in Los Angeles it will announce details on a new Zune-branded video service for the Xbox that will replace the current Xbox Live marketplace for TV and movies. The company didn't announce details or specifically say that content will be playable on both Zunes and the Xbox.
Currently videos purchased via the Xbox can't be played on a Zune, although both stores use a similar back-end infrastructure to serve up content. Over time, Stephenson said the goal is to move toward a world in which content purchased once can be played on a variety of devices.
Microsoft plans to offer the new Zune video service in a number of European markets, in addition to North America.

OXCGN’s Forza 3 Pre E3 News Update
Will Forza 3 include this famous circuit, and be announced on the 12th June, the day before the famous race? My educated guess is – YES. And it will be announced after the title has most likely been “officially confirmed” at E3.
The 24 HEURES DU MANS is run on the 13 – 14th June, so the date on the image fits in perfectly with pre-race announcements.
Thanks to our affiliate lvl2gamer we have this neat image of the track with the date “save the date” embedded on it.
Well I can assure you, you WILL know about Forza 3 before the 12th June from OXCGN. We have an appointment with MS when we land in LA on four “secret games” to be announced during E3, and I’m 99% certain that Forza 3 is amongst those four titles.

'Life' is over at NBC - Too bad..it is a good show..
"It will not be coming back," was NBC co-chairman Ben Silverman's short and to-the-point statement on the show's fate, which came in response to a question about it at the network's upfront presentation in New York Monday. The LA Times and numerous others reported the cancellation.
It's not a huge surprise. The series, which starred Damian Lewis as eccentric L.A. detective Charlie Crews, averaged only about 6.2 million viewers in its second season, where it split time between Wednesday and Friday nights (along with a brief tryout on Mondays at the beginning of the season).
The show had faded from discussion of NBC's bubble shows over the past week as reports focused attention on "Chuck," "Law & Order" and "Medium" -- which isn't officially renewed, despite earlier reports. All three of those shows are reportedly still in contention for spots on the NBC schedule. The network says it will announce additional pickups, along with its lineup for next season, on Tuesday, May 19.
NBC renews Chuck for 13 episodes
As reported on Sunday, this new life does come with a price, however. Or, specifically a lower one. Chuck, which had already trimmed its production budget going into Season 2, will now need to be even leaner and meaner for its next cycle. That could result in a scenario similar to the one seen on ABC's Scrubs this spring, where certain cast members "went missing" for a week at a time.
One factor perhaps playing into Chuck's pick-up was NBC's decision to take a pass on David E. Kelley's Legally Mad. That incurred a financial penalty from Warner Bros. TV, and there was talk that to "make good" on the amount due, NBC would grant a renewal to Chuck, which is also a WB production.
NBC is not confirming any new pick-ups until its upfront "comedy showcase" event on May 19. -- Matt Mitovich
Transformers USB flash drive is ready to ravage your files, bring carnage to your desktop
Sure, you already have piles of flash drives scattered around your apocalyptic nightmare of an apartment, but this one's more special than those, right? Because it's a Transformer-- Ravage, AKA Tripredacus Agent. Ravage has outlived the age of cassette and is onto smaller, better things, and he can store up to 2GB of your most valuable data. He's going to run $42.99 when he's available in September, and can be pre-ordered now.
Pentax gets official with 14.6MP K-7 DSLR: HD movies, HDR mode
After digesting loads of scuttlebutt here lately, we're elated to see that Pentax has finally come clean with its new K-7 DSLR. The 14.6 megapixel shooter packs a rugged magnesium alloy body and arrives with an HD movie mode that captures video at 640 x 416, 720p (1,280 x 720) or 1,536 x 1,024 -- all at 30fps. Needless to say, that's more than the D90 and D5000 offer (both top out at 720p), and while Canon's T1i does 1080p, it does so at just 20fps. There's also an HDMI port, a 3-inch Live View LCD, in-camera lens correction, shake reduction and an improved dust reduction system. The real kicker, however, is the High Dynamic Range (HDR) capture mode, which snags a trio of images, then combines them in-camera to widen the exposure gamut. The body alone should ship in July for $1,299.95 -- which is notably more expensive that recent wares from Canon, Nikon and Sony -- and you can peek the full slate of specifications just past the break.

BlackBerry Storm 2 gets pictured early
We knew it was coming, and just like its relatives the Onyx and the Gemini, yet another unreleased model has managed to escape the confines of RIM's Waterloo headquarters. This time, however, it's the Storm 2, which we've heard has been internally codenamed "Oden." We've also caught wind that this model pictured is of the GSM flavor, and yes, it's indeed packing WiFi in addition to GPS according to one of our sources. As far as that rumored "new approach to text entry," it sounds like the keyboard has been tweaked but isn't a radical departure from the first generation. From the photos, it seems that RIM has advanced in the war on buttons and axed the bottom four in favor of some touch-sensitive controls. The real improvements, however, appear to be under the hood, as the whole device reportedly runs much faster and smoother than the current model. We can't confirm these specs, but with the Tour coming this summer, and the Storm 2 hopefully making an appearance before the holiday shopping season, looks like you Verizon BlackBerry fans might not have to be that jealous of your GSM brethren after all. One more pic after the break.
Man United wins 3rd straight Premier League title
MANCHESTER, England (AP)—Manchester United won the Premier League for the third straight season Saturday after a 0-0 tie with Arsenal.
United needed a point to clinch a record-equaling 18th title. The draw at Old Trafford put the championship out of reach for second-place Liverpool, which is seven points behind with two games left.
“Thankfully, we got the job done today,” striker Wayne Rooney said. “The last few years have been unbelievable.”
United has won 11 Premier League titles in the last 17 seasons under manager Alex Ferguson and is tied with Liverpool with 18 on the list of English league champions.
“I never thought we could get 11 titles—never in a million years,” Ferguson said.
After a lackluster game, the final whistle set off a massive celebration. The team was presented with the Premier League trophy on the field, with the players hugging and spraying champagne.
Ferguson has 25 major trophies since he arrived at the club in 1986 and hopes to make it 26 when United faces Barcelona in the Champions League final May 27 in Rome.
“It makes you want to go on forever,” said the 67-year-old Scot, who has no plans to retire anytime soon.
The trophy was carried onto the field by four soldiers who returned from a four-month tour of duty in Afghanistan. As the medals were presented and fireworks exploded, the rain that had lashed the field all game cleared and Old Trafford was bathed in sunshine.
Ryan Giggs has been part of United’s team for each of its 11 Premier League triumphs masterminded by Ferguson since the 1992-3 season.
“It’s been a special time at the club since the manager took over and we’ve managed to win so much,” Giggs said. “Hopefully we can carry on.”
The title is the eighth for 34-year-old defender Gary Neville.
“I think it’s a fantastic achievement,” said Neville, adding that Liverpool’s challenge helped focus the champions. “They pushed us really hard this season. Next season, we’ve got our work cut out to go and do it again.”
Powered this season by goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and top performances from strikers Rooney and Carlos Tevez, United also had a rock-solid defense. Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar set a British record by going 1,311 minutes without conceding a goal.
United withstood a shaky stretch in April, losing 4-1 at home to Liverpool and 2-0 at Fulham. Then came a winning streak that pushed the club ahead of rival Liverpool.
Liverpool plays last-place West Bromwich Albion on Sunday. The final round of games is May 24.

Renault R-Screen 3D viewer
At the Laval Virtual Exhibition - a conference on Virtual Reality - Renault has presented R-Screen, a 3D viewer developed in conjunction with French Clarté which features a large-scale projection display that enables users to walk around a virtual vehicle.
The “R-Screen” 3D viewer was premiered at the Laval Virtual Exhibition, a virtual reality, 3-D devices and interactive technology conference which took place in Laval, France, from April 22 to 26, 2009.
This device is the result of collaboration between Renault’s Information Technology Department and Clarté, the Laval Center for Virtual Reality Studies - which designed and built it. The 3D viewer enables users to walk around a virtual vehicle, as they would with a real vehicle.
R-Screen is a motorized screen pivoting 360° and measuring 2.50 m wide and 1.80 m high. It follows the movements of the user in such a way as to always be directly in front of the user.
R-Screen adopted several 3DVIA Virtools modules, including their VR pack. The concept was developed by Clarté and patented by Renault.
A virtual, scale-one 3D image is displayed on screen. A computer updates the image according to the movements of R-Screen, enabling users to view the virtual vehicle from all angles.
The system was presented at the exhibition in two real-life situations: communication events (presenting a vehicle) and engineering use (checking feasibility for welding points).
The R-Screen 3D viewer offers a broad range of application possibilities. For example, it could be used to present the entire Renault product line-up at a meeting (rather than having to transport the actual vehicles), as well as for training and design.

Xbox 360's 3DV motion tech explained
It is looking increasingly likely that Microsoft is gearing up for the big unveil of its new 3D motion-sensing camera controller for the Xbox 360 at E3 2009, so it is time to have a little look at the technology behind the E3 rumours and hype.
Firstly, while we have to stress that nothing has been officially confirmed by Microsoft, the rumours that the new Xbox 360 3D motion-cam is to be unveiled at gaming expo E3 have been fuelled this week by reports in the Wall Street Journal.
What has been confirmed is that Microsoft finalised the buy-out of Israeli 3D motion-sensing camera technology specialists in April of this year. And that the Redmond-based tech giant will be developing 3DV Systems' image sensing tech in the US – according to reports from the Israeli press.
3DV camera tech explained
But what exactly is this so-called 'Wii killer' motion-sensing technology that 3DV has been developing? And how does it work?
The technology is outlined in a little more detail on 3DV's own website, which notes describes it as follows: "3DV Systems' image sensing technology generates distance (depth) information for each pixel or object captured by the camera, as well as color video.
"The technology is based on the Time-Of-Flight (TOF) principle. The Depth information is captured by emitting pulses of infra-red light to all objects in the scene and sensing the reflected light from the surface of each object.
"All objects in the scene are then arranged in layers according to the distance information sensed by the D pixels in the camera, providing the Depth information in real time as standard black and white video where the grey-level correlates to relative distance.
"Color data is provided using a normal color imaging sensor."
Superior depth imaging
The company adds that "3DV's technology performs superior depth imaging (depth resolution of millimeters) in real-time (60 fps or more), using little or no CPU."
The website also details the Product Evolution of 3DV's 3D video cameras, with the company having "developed 4 generations of depth cameras."
It continues: "In recent years 3DV has been developing DeepC, a chipset that embodies the company's core depth sensing technology. This chipset can be fitted to work in any camera for any application, so that partners (e.g. OEMs) can use their own know-how, market reach and supply chain in the design and manufacturing of the overall camera capabilities. The chipset will be available for sale soon."
ZCam becoming XCam?
Specifically, all the Xbox 360 rumours point towards the likelihood that the Xbox motion-sensing camera will look very much like 3DV's "new ZCam (previously Z-Sense), 3DV's most recently completed prototype camera… based on DeepC and…the company's smallest and most cost-effective 3D camera.
"At the size of a standard webcam and at affordable cost, it provides very accurate depth information at high speed (60 frames per second) and high depth resolution (1-2 cm). At the same time, it provides synchronized and synthesized quality color (RGB) video (at 1.3 M-Pixel)."
The Z-Cam is currently publicised on the site as being ideal for PC-based gaming and for background replacement in web-conferencing.
Stay tuned for more on 3DV and Microsoft's new gaming tech as well as all the E3 news, rumours and comment that's fit to publish over the coming days and weeks.

Latest mini-HDMI connectors get shown off in prototype form
Mini HDMI connectors aren't exactly anything new, but a number of companies have now produced some prototypes based on the latest Type D spec set for inclusion in the next HDMI standard, which they hope will be more suitable for cellphones, GPS systems, and other portable devices. One of those comes from Molex Inc and, like the others, is half the size of a regular HDMI connector (or about the same size as a micro-USB connector) but employs the same 19 pins as the standard HDMI design. That's joined by a similar connector from Yazaki Corp of Japan, as well as a connector designed specifically for automotive use by Japan Aviation Electronics Industry Ltd, which supposedly boasts improved reliability and durability. Still no promises as to when any of these specific prototypes will actually materialize, of course, but the first few mini connectors of some sort could start appearing as soon as the second half of this year.
Sony Alpha 230, 330, and 380 DSLRs leak out a little early
We've been hearing vague murmurs of revised Sony Alpha DSLRs all week, but now we've got some actual proof: these shots of the new Alpha 230, 330, and 380 went up briefly on Sony's Russian website earlier today. The biggest improvements seem to be smaller cases, a revised interface, and HDMI out, but there's also a new "handbook" to help new users get started and a Bravia control mode that allows the camera to be controlled by your TVs remote while it's displaying pictures. A nice enough upgrade, but unless these are somehow super cheap we'd say the omission of a video mode is going keep most people focused on the Nikon D5000 and Canon T1i. Rumor: Is This the Upcoming Xbox 360 "Motion" Accessory
According to a report from Engadget, who cites an anonymous tipster claiming to have knowledge of Microsoft's Xbox 360 plans, the company is working on a new Wii-like sensor bar for the console that can offer motion control minus the actual controller.
Players will allegedly "kick, punch, duck, dive, jump and so forth with [their] body" and even be able to perform more precise controls like hand gestures for "pinching, grabbing and scrolling."

Life: Was that the Last Episode or Will There Be More?
It’s no secret that NBC’s Life has been struggling in the ratings this year. What happened? And, did we just see the season or series finale?
Life follows the days of Charlie Crews (Damian Lewis), a detective who was released from prison after serving 12 years of a life sentence for murders that he didn’t commit. Crews has lost everything dear to him but survives thanks to his studies of Zen philosophy. He sues to get his job back and rejoins the LAPD a very different man. Others in the cast include Sarah Shahi, Adam Arkin, Brent Sexton, Donal Logue, Brooke
The NBC drama debuted on September 26, 2007 to 10.15 million viewers and a 4.1/11 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The second episode slipped to 8.8 million and a 3/10 rating/share. Later episodes sank to a low of 5.72 million and a 2/6.
In a typical year, NBC very likely would have cancelled Life but, thanks to the crazy writers strike, the year wasn’t typical. The season was cut short to 11 episodes and, based on limited pilot prospects, the execs decided to take a roll of the dice and give Life another chance.
That strategy didn’t work out for ABC shows like Dirty Sexy Money and Eli Stone and it didn’t work for Life either. NBC didn’t help matters by scheduling Life in a little-watched Friday night timeslot.
Life’s season two premiere was given a special Monday night timeslot and it attracted 6.94 million people and a 2.7/7 rating/share in the demo. When it moved to Friday nights, it sank to 5.54 million and a 1.7/5. Strangely enough, the following Monday night, the numbers were about the same.
Lipstick Jungle, which was occupying Life’s old Wednesday timeslot, wasn’t doing very well either. So, after six episodes, NBC moved Life back to Wednesdays, hoping that its performance would improve. That didn’t really happened and, with the exception of one ratings spike in December, Life averaged just 5.3 million and a 1.7 rating in the demo.
Sadly, with ratings like these and NBC’s need for far fewer shows next season, Life has very little chance of returning for a third season.
Thankfully, after tonight, NBC has aired all 32 episodes of the series. Had Life been on ABC and gotten these numbers, it probably would have only received a 13 episode order and we’d have to wait until Summer to see the final installments.
Tonight’s episode, “One,” gave us a bunch of answers to the conspiracy that put Crews behind bars. Obviously there a plenty of more stories to be told but at least we have some answers.
If this turns out to be the last episode, do you find it satisfying enough?
Chrysler Fiat Deal Confirmed
On the same day that Chrysler declares its intention to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, with the full support and guidance of the US government, the troubled Detroit automaker announced the forging of an alliance with not-in-trouble-yet Fiat.
Fiat has decided that picking up a stake in Chrysler on the cheap is a ripe opportunity. And how cheap is that? Real cheap, as in, they don't have to shell out a dime. Fiat will provide Chrysler with models and the platforms and technology to build them, as well as management services and business cooperation in exchange for what will initially be a 35 percent stake in the company, which may be taken past 50 percent to full ownership at a later date.
Will Fiat be able to exploit Chrysler as a low-cost manufacturing base in the US? Will they revive the Chrysler and Dodge brands and put successful models into dealerships that people will want to buy, despite the stigma of bankruptcy? That's the multi-billion dollar question.
Chrysler, and the Obama administration which has pushed the company towards a bankruptcy declaration and hopes to usher the automaker through a streamlined Chapter 11 proceeding, says it hopes to emerge from bankruptcy with the proper restructuring done within weeks. If they can pull it off maybe, just maybe, they have a chance at surviving and one day prospering again.

E3 09 Predictions
- Microsoft will show off why it's been quiet for so long this year; they've been busing making Sony's HOME better! Expect Live Spaces and some heavy new features for Microsoft's much loved Avatars. The achievement system will now allow you to earn some nice new items to deck out your avatar with, along with a slew of new community avatar based games.
- Hulu will become available to Gold members on the NXE with a fancy interface.
- Games, lots and lots of games. Cliffy B will show off Epic's newest IP, which will use the latest advancements to the Unreal engine. (Think survival horror but with Gears of War like action.) Halo ODST will be shown and throw Halo fans for a loop with its sandbox like game-play. Expect Halo Chronicles to make a sneak peak presentation and Alan Wake will finally wake the hell up. Along with Alan, Miss Dark will make her triumphant return to the 360. Microsoft will also show around 4-5 casual games and show off its third party love affair with some exclusive DLC for games like Assassins Creed 2. In fact Microsoft will be showing off more than just what’s coming this year but will give gamers a sneak peek at what's to come.
After their presentation, gamers will look at their wallets and weep.
- More RPG announcements that RPG fans will dance in their under wears about, but will sell poorly.
- The 360 will also get waggle, only it's going to be just one sensor bar and no controller. This time you waggle! Similar to the PS3's attempt at waggle, core gamers will laugh and casual gamers will continue to buy the Wii.
SONY
- Sony will announce the worst kept secret going, the PSP2, or as it’s lovingly being called; the PSP GO! The exclamation point is for the price shock of the new PSP. Gamers will pick it up in droves once it’s been hacked and iPhone owners will yawn and continue downloading apps.
- Sony will show off its MAG, which is still in the running for most unoriginal name to an action game ever, and the crown jewel in the PS3's line-up: God of War III. God of War III will make its launch come March of next year and will include a multi-player component similar to Uncharted 2. Kratos purists will call foul, until they unveil the online sex mini-game; God of Lovin. Ratchet and Clank will make an appearance as well as three new games from Sony for the PS3. Call us crazy but one of them will be an ex-360 game. Expect tons of PSP announcements, and even a few PS2 titles for good measure. Sony will continue to milk the PS2 for all it's worth and will try and bring rebirth to the PSP.
- The PS3 will not receive a price drop, yep, you read that right. Sony is focused on making some cold hard cash. Instead expect a new bundle and perhaps a SKU switcheroo. The price point will stay the same but consumers will get more GB's and maybe a nice free game in the mix.
- Cross game chat will finally make its way the XMB. PS3 owners will rejoice in unison and there will be much cheering in the land.
- Home will have tons of new spaces, and might even allow PS3 users to share media between users.
