Toyota Wish 2009 Brochure Leak

People interested in the next generation Toyota Wish may have, for lack of a better term, gotten their wish. A brochure for the company's compact people-mover leaked out on the internet, and we have some details to bring you.

As it stands, the vehicle will have a choice of two engines both upgrades from the vehicle's current offering. The first, Toyota's 2ZR-FAE, is a 1.8-liter DOHC engine that produces 142 hp and generates up to 130 ft-lb of torque. Also found on the Corolla and Matrix, this engine improves on the current Wish base offering by nearly 22 hp, and 8 ft-lbs.

The second engine is a two-liter version of the same engine, producing 158 hp and 145 ft-lb of torque. This is a smaller power improvement, only 3 hp, over the old offering. Torque matches the current higher-valued engine choice.

Length of the new body is increased by 40 mm, and height remains the same. The width of the MPV either remains the same, or increases by 50mm, depending on the trim level. Wheelbase is constant, at 2,750 mm. Inside, the vehicle will feel 10mm longer, and now has 5140 liters of interior space.

There will be four trim levels, with two featuring each engine. Those getting the bigger engine, will also get a push button ignition. Several different wheels will be featured, as well as either a standard or multi-function steering wheel.

The 2009 Toyota Wish is expected to go on sale soon, with deliveries beginning in the 2nd quarter of the year.

Volvo Skipping Tokyo Motor Show Too

VOLVO is the latest automaker to pull out of the Tokyo motor show.

The Swedish automaker announced last week that it would not take part in the motor show. Parent company Ford, along with fellow Detroit automakers GM and Chrysler, also pulled out of the show last week.

The association which runs the Tokyo motor show, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), had considered canceling the show due to a lack of participation but last week announced it was going forward and holding it. Some members had believed that the current global automotive crisis warranted skipping the show for this year. But the major Japanese automakers were committed to the show and will now be participating.

One of those is Mazda, which has said it will be at the show. The automaker is also closely allied with Ford, which owns 13 percent of Mazda. Ford once held a 33 percent share of the Japanese automaker but sold off most of its stock last year to raise cash. Ford sold 20 percent of Mazda for 540 million US dollars.

The Tokyo Motor Show is a bi-annual event. Press days will be the 21st and 22nd of October. The public show takes place from October 23rd to November 8th of this year

Audi A4 Outsells BMW 3-Series in Germany

The Audi A4 is not only Audi's top selling vehicle, it was also purchased more often in Germany than the BMW 3-Series. 2008 figures for the A4 have been released, with over 98,714 units in Germany. The Audi A6 and Audi TT also topped their segment, with 45,304 and 10,630 vehicle registrations, according to the company.

Audi claims the A4 was second only to the Volkswagen Golf in terms of overall sales in Germany. Both brands are owned by VW. The figures also show a great boost for Audi, with increased sales in Germany, and all of Western Europe. Audi Chairman Rupert Stadler said, "Audi is presently experiencing stronger growth than any other premium brand in the region - and thanks to new models we will maintain this dynamism."

"In a difficult market environment, we want to further expand our market share in Germany and Western Europe."

The 2009 model year Audi A4 was released in April 2008. The '09 S4 Sedan and Avant arrive in European dealerships this quarter.

Not a bad birthday present for Audi's 100-year anniversary. Audi sold more than one million vehicles worldwide last year. BMW still leads them as the global luxury brand, having sold 1.12 million in 2008.

Blu-ray sales quadrupled in 2008

Tgdaily.com writes, " Late last week at CES, Andy Parsons, president of the Blu-ray Disc Association announced that 2008 was a banner year for Blu-Ray sales. Surpassing the adoption rate of DVDs, CDs and HDTVs (as well as several other common household technologies), Blu-Ray sales topped 28.6 million in the 4th quarter alone (up from 9.5 million a year earlier). Top seller was Dark Knight.

In 2008 there were 10.7 million Blu-ray capable players in the United States, including 6 million Sony PlayStation 3 units. In the same three-year timeframe after release, DVD players in the 1990s totaled only 5.4 million. If Sony PS3s are excluded, the number of Blu-ray stand-alone players sits at 4.7 million, though 40 million homes have HDTVs meaning there is already much room for growth."

Ferrari F60 F1 Unveiled

The new Ferrari F60 is here, Ferrari’s new contender for the 2009 Formula One racing season, making Scuderia Ferrari the first team to unveil their 2009 race car, showing just how eager they are to wrestle the World title back from McLaren. The F60 name is a homage to Ferrari’s 60th consecutive season competing in the Formula One championship, which is basically right from the start, and is the only team to do so for each and every season.

The car looks bizarre as usual, as will all the 2009 race cars, but the car’s saving grace is its sexy red colour. The odd looks are thanks to the 2009 regulations on aerodynamics. We can spot the 2009 rules on the photos - the long front wheel, a short and high rear wing, sidepod-mounted mirrors, and slick Bridgestone tyres. What’s out of sight is the Kinetic Energy Recovery System developed together with Magneti Marelli, a refined suspension system, and a new Brembo brake system.

The large front wing has a flap that is driver-adjustable to reduce the loss of front downforce when following other cars. Hopefully this will promote overtaking.

“I am excited but also happy to take it onto the track for the first time. With all the new legislation I was expecting a different car, like 10 years ago with the huge spoilers, but I was surprised. I found the new F60 to be nice and small like an F3 car and nice-looking,” said Filipe Massa, Ferrari’s Brazilian driver.

This year’s season will begin down under at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, on the 29th of March 2009.

Will the Abomination Be Back in the Next Hulk Movie?

The Hulk got to face off in a true superhero/supervillain battle in The Incredible Hulk, fighting his mortal enemy, the Abomination. Well, the Abomination may very well return in the next film, as Tim Roth recently told SCI FI Wire.

"Yeah, they've got me for three," Roth said. "If we do one," he added.

At present, there is no script for a sequel to The Incredible Hulk, and in all likelihood there wouldn't be one planned until after Marvel releases The Avengers. But Roth says that as long as Leterrier plans to direct, Roth will be happy to play the Abomination again.

"I liked working with Louis very much, so if he's up to anything, I'll probably jump in with him," Roth said.pix41562

Toshiba Regza 42RV500E (42-inch LCD)

Already known for its out-standing Regza LCD TVs, Toshiba has taken technology a notch higher with the introduction of the two new series featuring its patented Power Meta Brain technology. Pictures produced are exceptionally real, clean, clear, smooth and original, thanks to a combination of sophisticated technologies.

The RV500 Series is clearly different from its competitors. Full HD 1080p resolution provides excellent picture quality. However, not all 1080p TVs look the same. Toshiba delivers the full impact of full HD by using 10-bit video processing which is superior to 8-bit types.

With its new high-tech frame edged with silver accents and a smooth, sleek finish, the Regza RV500 Series complements any contemporary home beautifully. The 42RV500E model is currently available in the market, with plans to introduce more models in the near future.

Naturally, the amount of light in the room affects how one sees the picture.

Thanks to an intelligent new Regza technology called the Ambient Light Sensor, the Regza RV500 is able to respond to room lighting conditions, adjusting its contrast to ensure optimum picture quality.

For example, in rooms with large windows or bright lights, the luminance can be more than 1,500 lux. Settings are automatically adjusted to achieve the best picture.

In a dimly-lit room in the evening, the luminance will vary from about 50 to 400 lux. The RV500 adjusts its contrast to best match the illumination.

The sophisticated Power Meta Brain engine uses five advanced technologies to achieve 10-bit processing – featuring over one billion colours – for all stages from input to output.

The HDMITM (High Definition Multimedia Interface) inputs in the Regza RV500 accept digital signals directly, enabling viewers to enjoy video and audio from digital sources like a DVD player, video game or computer at the highest quality requiring only one cable. The Regza AV550 Series, as its tagline goes, is "Natural At Its Best".

The Regza AV550 Series features HD-Ready capabilities (1080p/1080i/720p) and 10-bit video processing for truly superior, natural-looking pictures.

Other Regza technologies include intelligent backlight control that results in deeper blacks, finer gradations and higher contrast as the brightness of the backlight in the Regza RV500 and AV550 is automatically adjusted according to a sophisticated histogram analysis of the brightness and location of dark sections in each scene.

The two series also allow for adjustment of hue, saturation and colour brightness for each of the six basic colours separately, giving greater colour control than ever before. In other words, viewers can perfectly adjust skin or grass colour without affecting other colours.

The Regza RV500 and AV550 series have been designed to be environmentally-friendly and feature lower power consumption of up to 25% (Type 32). They are made from much lighter materials and comply with international standards which prohibit the usage of six materials deemed harmful to the environment.
